The oldest known fossil crocodile

Portugalosuchus azenhae is the name of the oldest known fossil crocodile to date. This species roamed the Earth 95 million years ago and is crucial to understand the origin of crocodiles.

The illustration depicts the unique anatomical features of the skull and jaw of Portugalosuchus and is published in the scientific paper describing the species: A new eusuchian crocodylomorph from the Cenomanian (Late Cretaceous) of Portugal reveals novel implications on the origin of Crocodylia.
