Kingfishers

Remember that dash of bright blue color that flew in front of your eyes the last time you sat by a river? It is very likely it was a kingfisher.

Here are a few of my illustrations of this beautiful bird. The first drawing shows the wing structure of the Common kingfisher (Alcedo atthis), while the second depicts a mating ritual between a male (carrying the fish) and a female. The third image shows a kingfisher perched on a branch and a progress photograph of that same illustration.
